  Mirage

I had always imagined a mirage is an image one will see in times of great desperation, kind of like when you are dying of thirst and a fountain "appears" before you.

This is a neat little article I spied over at
Eso Garden. Look at the photos!

Comments:
If I'm not mistaken, I spy in the distance the high silver towers of Lyonesse...no, wait, that's only Los Angeles as seen returning from Santa Catalina Island.

Was hoping for the "mists of Avalon," but this is still very cool. People really did see Lyonesse - also known as Hybrasil, Tir na nÓg, Ys, the Isle of Glass, Atlantis - off the Atlantic coast. (French scientists think the ultimate source of the Atlantis legend may be here.)

As Oisin tells it:

"A land of youth, a land of rest,
A land from sorrow free;
It lies far off in the golden West,
On the verge of the azure sea.
A swift canoe of crystal bright.
That never met mortal view--
We shall reach the land ere fall of night,
In that strong and swift Canoe;
We shall reach the strand
Of that sunny land,
From druids and demons free;
The land of rest,
In the Golden West,
On the verge of the azure sea."
